THE CHALLENGE
Within an African context, there are pervasive issues that arise regarding cybersecurity threats. In 2023, South Africa had the highest reported number of malicious cybersecurity threats related to Business Email Compromise and Ransomware. In 2021 alone, there were 230 million threat detections recorded within South Africa which resulted in the nation being placed at the top of Interpol’s African cybersecurity watchlist (Interpol Cybersecurity Report, 2021).
