Jack, James, and Max's shared passion for technology and proven track record of collaborative success began during their university careers, where they first explored the power of decentralised technologies. They embarked on their first initiative, a Proof of Concept focused on creating reusable Know Your Customer (KYC) banking which credentials laid the foundation for what would eventually become VERA Innovations.

Discovery Group Hackathon
VERA's founders earned recognition by winning Discovery's 2023 Hackathon with their innovative Self-Sovereign Identity solution, which re-engineered the KYC process. Their project aimed to streamline identity verification and enhance data security for banking customers. Following this success, the team also received the Business System Group (BSG) Award for UCT's best final-year Information Systems Honours project. These achievements laid the foundation for the development of VERA's secure communication platform.

This initial version was demonstrated to a select target audience for review and testing to validate the technology.
